Superthriller - Moods

Ladies & Gentlemen, they are back: emerging from their subterranean studio below London Bridge, Superthriller have returned with a bag of raw electronic funk jams, twisted pop songs and weird arse electronica.

For those who don't know, Superthriller are Andrew Roland and brothers Ben and Max Ringham. Taking time out from their day-jobs as members of the acclaimed theatre collective Shunt and general sound designers about town, Superthriller emerged in 2003 with a series of 7" releases, followed by the much lauded album Superthriller I in 2005. What started as a studio project evolved into a live band, with the trio and friends wowing crowds at festivals across the country and winning themselves an obsessive fanbase. Next came the Blank album, a blank CD with full artwork was purchased containing a unique code. The buyer then went to a website where he made his own choice of 25 out of thirty tracks compiling and then downloading his own album. Superthriller II was released in 2007, and saw the band embracing their love of Electronics but throwing in a bit of Randy Newman and a west coast feel into the mix

Two years on and the band have returned with a new album. “Moods” is a departure from previous outings, finding the band embracing new influences alongside their punk funk roots. Whilst their playful humour remains (see “Chomski and Normski”), the boys have brought a little more leisure wear to the barbecue this time round. The haunting “Caroline”, “Taragh” and conveyer belt homage “Luxury Mood” mark a definite transition towards the home listen, but ingeniously sequenced with rowdiness like “Everybody’s Got To Get Some”, “Moods” strikes a satisfying balance between dancefloor and sofa. The new record draws an equal amount of inspiration from the European sound of 60’s and 70’s library music as it does from the underground new york dance scene of the 70’s and 80’s . this record is a true genre buster !!
